Alpaca Tech is an offshoot of Alpaca Travel. It was established as an extension of their primary business, which focuses on producing travel and mapping-related content. Alpaca Tech offers its product to agencies and developers keen to utilise the robust data models which form the foundation of their platform.

The development team at Alpaca has poured years of development effort and substantial investment into R&D to build out their robust infrastructure. Allowing rich data to be overlaid on customisable maps with custom UI, showcasing detailed locations, travel routes, various modes of transport, multi-day trips and more.

Alpaca now provides  access to both their easy-to-use CMS, API and an ever expanding set of customisable modules and UI elements. Allowing developers to build robust applications and websites that harness their Itinerary Technology, ensuring optimal user experiences, while reducing lead time on development.

In early 2023, I was asked to develop a brand and responsive UI design for their documentation website. The brand needed to align with other developer centric products and showcase some of the ideas and level of sophistication that is possible with their platform.

All of which needed to be delivered in a constrained timeframe.

As a designer, this is the kind of mini-project that is a joy to work on. A clear value proposition, a discrete level of complexity and scale, along with the ambition to do something genuinely interesting and well-crafted.

The final designs were for a long-scroll landing page that integrated interactive maps, a set of ‘techy’ graphics and animations, that highlighted the key features and benefits of the product.

Additionally, there were key pages and navigation for the reference section of the site, which was both familiar in the UI patterns it leveraged and easy to use.
